Modoc took the lead late and defeated Thunderbirds 7-4 on Wednesday. The game was tied at four with Modoc batting in the bottom of the sixth when Travis Hitzman singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Modoc earned the victory despite allowing Thunderbirds to score three runs in the sixth inning. Dustin Harrison and Don Massoud all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Modoc got things moving in the first inning, when Brent Smerczynski induced Dave Lovell to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. Adam Gremillion led the Modoc to victory on the mound. The pitcher surrendered four runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out three. Smerczynski took the loss for Thunderbirds . Smerczynski allowed 12 hits and seven runs over five and a third innings, striking out one. Modoc tallied 12 hits on the day. Hitzman and Steve Hahn all managed multiple hits for Modoc. Hahn and Hitzman each collected two hits to lead Modoc. Modoc didn’t commit a single error in the field. Brant Farris had nine chances in the field, the most on the team.
